Boni’s Bar Next Door is a little slice of old Austin, from Todd Duplechan and Jessica Maher—the team behind Lenoir Restaurant just next door. Together, Boni’s and Lenoir (celebrating 14 years in 2026) feel like a small farm-to-table village tucked into the heart of the city—holding onto that laid-back, old Austin vibe in a neighborhood that’s always changing.
Boni’s is inspired by Jess’s great grandfather, Bonifacio (known as Boni) who lived a hands-on, family-centered life and was devoted to craft and good company. He immigrated from Spain to Argentina before settling in New Jersey, where he reunited with Jess’s great grandmother from the same small town. During Prohibition, he worked as a rum runner, but he also made his own wine, played music, smoked cigars, and grew much of his own food.
While the bar is named after him, it also draws from Todd’s grandfather, Leon, who owned bars in Louisiana. Together, their stories shape a space rooted in heritage, hospitality, and a genuine love of bringing people together.
